Softly, In My Life

by Joe Cramer

Softly, in my life, the shadows now fall

Across me, at the end of the long day.

They draw their patterns on my bedroom wall

With the sun dropping so low in this same way.

Quietly the shadows dance before me,

Pirouettes of a sweet somber silence.

It is only in my they are free

As they slowly sway in such somnolence.

Deepening dusk draws in gathering gloom,

So quickly as night begins to slip in.

Shadows dance again, then fade from my room,

As the evening silence does now begin.

Glimpsing last shadows slip slowly away

I view this closing of long summer day.

Man...I've always thought of you as a good writer. But this is just some of your best stuff to date. So much crisp, terrific language. I love it.
