Every Tattoo Is A Memory

by J. P. Davies

Every tattoo is a memory
so I'll remember this in my skin.
Draw it out in symbols
so that you can see it too.

Every goodbye is a love song
so tonight I'll sing it for you
a querulous melody
meant to keep you in mind.

Every moment is a sunrise
so I'll put this song in my skin
to remember you in the morning
when I rise.

Author's Note: Just a thought I had while sitting here at work. I think that "every goodbye is a love song" is from a switchfoot song but I didn't purposely lift it. Just in case...that line is copyright Jon Foreman. Actually I looked it up it's from the song Yesterdays and it says "Every lament is a love song"

Love how the last stanza weaves it all together. Lovely piece.

I have two tattoos. Not sure if I'll get any more, but I loved how you captured "so I'll remember this in my skin. Draw it out in symbols". Wonderful work!!!

I have 9 tattoos, with plenty of ideas for more to come, so reading this felt like home, b/c I know what it's like to feel this way. Nicely done.
