Human no. 3

by Corey Lockaby

he stood up in front of the congregation
they were resistant from the start
giving like a box-spring

he stared at each face
solemn, bored, dying or dead

it sickened him completely

so he gave the parting words
but this time he was honest

"Now may The Lord go with you
because I can't do it myself.
I tried to be good, I really did.
I had to be better, I had to be leader.
But I've learned that nothing good will ever come of humanity.
May The Lord go with you.
Because I'm sure as hell not going to."

finally,
he had gotten through a Sunday
without lying once.

Heh. Nice. I've seen a couple of services that probably should have gone down like this.
