used to be lovers by Charlie Morgan
i say shenanigan, she says lark;
and i approve, she sanctions.
so, i'm quick on the uptake;
she says messy, i say choatic.
she says sift, i say sort through;
she says pact, and i say accord.
as she says horse's ankle, i say hock;
she says life's harmony, i say Taoism.
one of these days, she'll say i'm gone;
i'll wonder what gone she's talking about.
when she uses the love word towards me;
i know she means: she'll put up with me.
i think we are on the verge of knowing
what each means, words: the slayer of meaning.

| Posted by George Hoerner on 04/10/08 at 03:48 PM You really nailed this one Charlie! We think we speak the same language even when we use the same words. I think early in a relationship we just expect that we know and near the end we wonder what it was we thought we knew. That is when we start asking ourselves what words really mean. Really great write! |
