On the Horizon

by Jane E Pearce

Where did the days go

when surety and I rode

our horses together?

.

The woods flying by,

sunlight on our backs.

Where is the laughter

that filled our hearts,

eaten away by fear?

.

Who dares to dismantle

our foundations- our stalwart

beliefs?   It is he who thundered

through  History , tore up

the sod, and killed the Infidels

that dared to worship another God.

.

I can see it on the horizon,

riders on horses pawing

at the ground,  curved swords

shining in the sun-yes it has begun.

.

Never before has time held

such terror.  But some are blinded

by  foolish displaced vitriol,

by disbelief that

their lives could  ever change.

.

Wake up and see the plunderers

coming- make the wrong choice,

and you are dead.  Also by association,

your children and  each grandchild

will lose his or her head.

.
