Your Teeth I Catch Them With My Neck

by Nicole Assenza

what do I keep you
around for ?

it’s your teeth that I
catch with my neck
and the bruise cage I lie in
you start to stretch my
strings, heart’s and then
play ‘em til they snap
(never will I break for such, a sound)

and then you catch
my pains in the air
before they even have the chance
to wander up my spine
and I wonder why
I like the way my neck
catches your teeth again

sip a night ink and why
are the lighthouse brights still on
when I’ve got a ship to sink
I think I like the way
your teeth, I catch them with my neck

line up the daylight and suggest
to never better bridges
better burned--
and I think
sign me up for a wet dream
that’s gasoline and pyres
how I feel about your teeth
when they’re caught by my neck

Nice. Good to see a poem looking to swing hard and go for the kill early.
