birthday candles

by Charlie Morgan

there's gotta be something more.
this life and the other one.
and only so many years to find
what you're looking for.

many times i picked a dead flower,
already limp and waning in chlorophyll.
brown is the new green.

around this corner is another
and another and another.
they just go by fast.

slowing down doesn't help,
speeding up is to no avail.
keep wanting the "me."

the me you knew at 5 yrs. old.
that's plenty enough to know,
the rest is candle burning.

Isn't that the truth! And I keep lighting them in the middle. Very well done sir.

I would have loved to know the "me" you were at 5 years old. The wonder of that boy! I know just what you mean! Blessings!!!

Very nice poem. How odd it is to wake up one day and realize that you are five years older than you previously felt.

Goodness, Charlie, at first thought, this piece says so many things I have been unsuccessful in articulating...not often you find such pieces, but what a delight...there is a melting of sorts that happens as I read on, a melting of the power that time hold over us...each stanza is a world of it's own, a microcosm, and together, a mosaic of a lifetime in four slices of living (artfully)...a pleasure, peace, jewels
