Watching You Watch T.V.

by Nancy Ames

"Your eyes are wise
and flashing blue,
absorbing information.
I can fantasize
I'm there with you,
sharing each sensation.

I'm where I want to be
but you can't see me,
watching you watch T.V.

You shake your head
and laugh out loud,
and I am there to hear.
My mother said
that three's a crowd,
so sit and stare, my dear.

I'm where I want to be
but you can't see me,
watching you watch T.V.

You don't begin,
you can't exist,
without my watching eye.
I won't come in
but don't resist,
don't ever ask me why.

I'm where I want to be,
but you can't see me,
watching you watch T.V.

Truth is never enough,
between moth and flame,
there can be no pretense.
And life is tough
but it's not the same
without an audience.

I'm where I want to be,
but you can't see me,
watching you watch T.V."

Author's Note: This is another 'caricature poem', in which the speaker is one of those creepy people... or he might be a television- executive-type guy.
