philosophy is just words

by Charlie Morgan

while rodin was busy thinking
and buber was hugging a tree,
most of us were like print
in the paper, lined up waiting
for the period, the ender.

sartre winks at wiggenstein
suggesting with his look
that perhaps this would be the day.
as good a day as any to commit suicide.
each give a shoulder-shrugging why-not?

both tell the barkeep, waving him over,
'put it on desCartes tab' and adds
'let him think about it as he pays.'

Love it, love it -- I think "wiggenstein" would probably be the most sympathetic to your title, but from the opposite of the obvious perspective -- he'd probably celebrate it! Home run, my man...

btw, a fave -- even without the illustrious Mr. H brooding on the corner stool, waiting for the lights to go down...

What a rich little philosphical reversal... and it all comes down a toast. I love the "ender" and all the "words" in it.

I am woefully ignorant of anything but ancient philosophies. But even so I find this poem truly enjoyable. "like print / in the paper, lined up waiting" Beautiful!
