Chicago Fling

by Jared Winkler

I didn't know you all that well.
Proximity, about all we had in common.
I'd see you from a distance,
filled with awe at your brilliance.

And we had our times together.
Memories I wouldn't give up for the world,
You've excited me, thrilled me, scared me
Even though you were never really that threatening.

I must admit.
I'm standing at a distance again.
There's something even more attractive here,
but you'll always be my first love.
I think about you all the time.

I'll be back someday,
You'll still be as beautiful.

Only I will have changed.

And good luck with that, eh? I like the mix of sadness and resolve in this. You do it really well.
