Poetry Lesson

by Timothy Somers

I write for Me.
Can’t you see the glowing terms unspecified,
the beauty, love objectified,
in obscure terms
display the yearns
and terms of life
and love
and strife?

I write for You.
I may even name your name,
but the inside joke’s the same as
laying words and meanings at your feet,
if I remain discrete
in how I build my phrase,
I write to You.

I write mankind a note,
and warn them of the dangers,
love, and pride that sticks the throat
when unexamined lives
are those that thrive in populace,
oft meaning less than swine
before the pearls,
and finding churlish swirls of
grand confusion,
I write to All.
