Topic: I'd Rather Not Say

by Amanda J Cobb

It's too fragile, you see;
a thin sheen of clouded crystal,
hostage to a single please or tear.
I walk a tight-rope line,
craving sure and solid ground,
fearing a fall into the void.

Ever notice how giving air
to hopes and dreams
leaves them just as free
to shatter as to soar?

Life is the condition of not knowing
which it will be before you make the toss.

So: don't ask, don't tell, for now.
Because sometimes the question
is worse than the answer,
but sometimes it's not,
and not knowing
is its own kind of victory for the present.
