If You Could Escape by Maria Terezia Ferenczblack guardians of your eyes
riding the perimeter in lines
climbing eyes slow so close
building brimming
almost dropping attempted escape
until lashed windows slam shut
lonely sad prisoner of soul
all you hide we'll never know
color those lips those cheeks
cover them both in rouge
silenced whispers half told truths
hidden from us?
or hiding or you?
if you could escape
where to? 03/20/2008 Posted on 03/20/2008 Copyright © 2026 Maria Terezia Ferencz

| Posted by Leslie Ann Eisenberg on 03/23/08 at 05:27 AM great rhythm carries the story through. soulful sound. timely and effective rhyme! when i got to line 2, i first read "lies" not "lines," how cool! "hiding from us, or hiding from you?" and, the ending, clever and perfect, ala the style of our own brilliant jo serna. evocative and yet universally relateable! a from the heart masterpiece. :)pk |
