Love and Longing

by Elizabeth Seago

I'm knocking down this rickety old shack.
Taking all my feelings back.
This aching vessel will never cease to care,
But there's static in my heart now.
It's all dead air.

Will you witness the demolition?
None of you will.
One of you is here,
One up there,
And the last will never care.

And this, Ladies and Gentlemen...
This commemorates the hypocrisy of love.
These walls will come crumbling down,
Covering your ideals with dust and splinters.

Come on darlin, take a bow.
Your feelings were never real.
I don't know why your voice still makes me feel

Anything at all.

I was a fool to believe it.
A fool to ever believe
That love could be a good thing.
That love could save me.
