Figurehead ii

by Shirin Swift

Looking parts the waters that separate us
touching reseals these lips keeping their intricate secrets
waves toughen limbs into figureheads who can then wonder
if all wounds are self-inflicted
if happiness also scars

"if happiness also scars"...What a provocative line!

The sense of intimacy, "beyond kissing", such a natural powerful stream that follows from that strong "look". The vison that "parts the waters that separate us" so perfectly said, original, logical, inevitable. I love that "figureheads" "wonder" and yes, the question is fascinating... and unusual, and suggests the intensity of such "happiness"--that one can imagine such a marking by it. Yes.

Intimacy comes in many forms, from anger to making love. But such a provocation in asking does happiness scar. Such an interesting take on intimacy. Nice.
