Audrey by Richard VinceShe walks in monochrome,
An island of the fifties
In the vast ocean of
This youthful century.
Heads turn: the
Black and white of
Their eyes expand.
I see her in harsh colour,
But think of her in
Atmospheric black and white,
With the soft, warm feeling
Of nostalgia countering
The remoteness of unreality.
I begin to wonder how real
She really is: whether the image
She projects is of herself, or
Whether she is hiding behind the look
Of a dead style icon.
I also wonder how many
Other people notice
Her lack of smile.
Do her wide eyes reveal
Fear, or are they just
Part of the act?

Posted by Gregory O'Neill on 03/14/08 at 09:58 PM Hi Richard. This is a terrific "portrait". I find things I like in every stanza. Added to my favs. Great work, a unique and well expressed idea. Delighted. Thanks. |
