Den of Iniquity by Jeffrey ParrenIn this den of iniquity
we call existence
the ongoing perplexity
reveals truths unfathomable.
Where pasts too difficult
overwrite potential futures
and the doldrums of now
paralyze endeavors endlessly.
The present becomes foggy
and whether sun or darkness
I black out brooding
an actuality unfounded.
Programmed to dream
without the necessary tools
we learn the hard way
sometimes too late.
Kept in check within laws
governed by praetorians
whose hands dip fervently
into our bearish ambitions.
We defend their nation
cutting family lines
while heirs exempt
attend Ivy Leagues.
Natural selection green
with envy as greed
consumes appreciation
mementoes washed away.
In this den of iniquity
we call survival
it's anything but
while the trend deceives. 03/13/2008 Author's Note: Not sure about the ending...
