a panic under the sun

by Jared Fladeland

there's a stream inside me
a blue haze,
running trickles
against small pebbles
picnic baskets on the wooden
arc bridge
eating a peanut butter and jelly sandwich
watching a toy sailboat sail down
down until a few inches of water becomes
a few gallons
and the boat is swallowed by the ocean.

there's a stream inside me
asking to be baptized
by the holy fire in your eyes
i can't imagine the world
without the falling rain
cooling me in this haze.

redeem at your next convenience
there's a stream
the world is full of pebbles
inside me
eating
sailboat sail down
down until a few inches of water becomes
a few gallons
by the holy fire in your eyes
i can't imagine the world
cooling me in this haze
without the falling rain
pebbles.

running trickles
against small pebbles
picnic baskets on the wooden
arc bridge
calm. blue. swallowed up by the ocean.

there's a stream inside me.

Where even a stream can mean you're close to an ending... pardon the pun, but this is very deep.

I thoroughly enjoyed this new piece of yours, like stream it describes, the poem trickles down the page...I love the world you describe within, all the picnic baskets, PB&Js, sailboats, and pebbles...I love the word play between the first two stanzas and the second two, especially how the words are re-offered to the reader...it feels as though the poem acts like a growing stream, I can see the water spliting between stanzas as it would around a pebble, trickling 2 new paths to the the same pool at the end (wow, I went on a little tangent there, I hope you get what I mean)...anyway, I loved it...a pleasure to read, happy writings, peace, jewels
