the ship is drowning by Jared Fladelandcryptomatic infuriatic
insane frowns on the titanic;
and that explains the words
that cannot be said between two people
who used to hold on for dear life on
a raft made of rotten two-by-fours
and a whole lotta love
that is now splintered, tearing apart,
splitting into two sleds on the icy sea,
one heading for aruba
while the other heads steadfast
into the arctic circle.
we envy those who punish themselves,
smile for those who can pull their drowning feet
out of the water
and walk on the surface like a lizard dancer
sprawling to safety,
and we pity those who die
because their bodies just can't hold up
the brick wall they've built on top their backs. 03/03/2008 Posted on 03/03/2008 Copyright © 2024 Jared Fladeland
