I have lost a home

by Amanda Bullington

I have lost a home

a house full of friendly faces, warmth
and comfort

a place to return to after my long year
away

where a bed and other commonplace
necessities

welcomed me through the door

I have lost a home

to return to, along with the comfort
of friends

who live among the ruins upon which
shingles once laid

I have lost a family filled with love,
affection, hope

for my future
for the future

is now entirely up to me

I have no place to return

yet I must forge my place in this
society

before it gets the best of me.

Well said. Great sense of strength in this.
