The joys of motherhood

by Amy Niggel

Its nearly four in the morning
an hour when most sane people are sleeping
yet here I am awake
listening to your breath.
I watch you lying there
looking like the angel I know you are
and I forget the hard moments.
I am overcome with joy
overflowing with love for you.
Perhaps it is sleep deprived delirium
or perhaps it is just a mother's love.

Author's Note: Before becoming a mother I would have never dreamed of sucking the snot out of someone's nose, let alone at 3am but if it helps him sleep its worth it I suppose.

This is very sweet! I don't have children yet, but I've given a lot of thought to the sleepless nights and generally disrupted life but can't wait =)
