If you promise to just keep me safe and warm
forever
I will forget everything
I will break the rear view mirror that draws so much of my attention
I will lay down my arms
and surrender
you gave me all of my ammunition anyway
it just doesn’t seem fair
to use it against you

If you promise that when I am old and grey
to never remind me
of my failings and weaknesses and doubt
I will be strong for you
until you are strong for me
then we can be strong no more
together
at the end of our days

If you promise to make me keep my promise
I will promise never to break it
