In Her Room

by Joe Cramer

Emily decorates her room

In ways that I would have never imagined.

She enjoys the solace, the solitude

Far too much like me.

A poster here, a picture there

(One poster on the ceiling)!

I remember the time

When my own room was my solitude,

My solace, my "happy-place."

I guess that I shouldn't worry

Though she's growing up in a hurry.

She still prefers a night light,

A hug and a kiss from Dad before bed.

I do wish that I could see her more.

Author's Note: My daughter does not live with me.... though she is always with me in my heart of hearts....
