layer

by Maria Kintner

The lazy eyelid of Luna
is slowly opening,
to peek at the dizzying
affect of Venus and her
favorite past time.

She loves to make us wish
for the things that don't exist.

Her drug is quick,
lasting long enough for us to buy
the farm, and root ourselves
too deep in the bitter soil
of reality.

She blames Hallmark,
for the ultimate lesson we
can never seem to learn.

Love has no self.
