Avesting

by Anastasia Selby

You've cried more than once in front of me
and just the other night I sat
at the edge of your bed,
naked and crying,
and you didn't know what to do.

It is our minds that cause all this confusion.

You love me like you've never loved anyone,
you feel it in your heart
and with it comes a clamp of fear
you've also never felt before.

The fear of loss prevents you from gaining anything.

I have felt this way before,
and lost many things,

I have looked into the eyes of myself
and gotten lost
then found myself again.

And still you throw me off balance sometimes.

I guess we are all still children,
feeling our way around.

But we have accumulated so much fear,
I want to let it drop from me,
but am scared you won't be able to do the same.

That first stanza is just great. You really know how to set the scene.
