floating w o r d s

by Leah Laiben

the words once there are gone.
the ones that flowed from
lip and mind and heart.

only jumbled letters remain--
and lost syllables,
barely visible to the naked eye.

cling to what is left
grasp with faltering fingers
and lackluster brain

don't let them

run away

forever...
