sleep tight

by Leah Laiben

this world's urgent shame is
implanted, embedded
into no one in particular
through slick veins of unlove,
eating away at each other,
one heartbeat at a time.

eat it, drink it, swim in it.
all i have is yours,
though it shouldn't be yours to have.

grow and die before you live.
you were never really there.

never will you be.

Nice last three lines. Good way to leave them choking in the dust.
