back track, cat

by Bob Arcania

There is a knot in my cat’s tail
I cannot undo, he never sits. Or
I never sit, have you ever spent
a whole day walking, really?
(If you keep your hands tight
in your pockets it doesn’t count.)

There is a reed thin river down
near the beach where I shout
to the bridges each, two or three,
“Have you ever noticed how they ebb,
lick against their grassy shores?”
My cat is so clumsy he never sleeps.

(I think I told you to close your eyes
and here you are opening opening opening?)
There is a letter slit down its sides
and all of my utilities are pouring out,
cascading across the deviled floors
and all you do, cat, is drink more.

It sure does. Very nicely done. I like those last two lines in particular.
