Between Her and the Poppies by David GarnerIn poppy fields I lie drunk with admiration of their structure.
I am attracted to this flower there is no denying.
Not just one flower but the whole expansive field.
Polyamorous I become when lying down next to them.
Awful truth is I must lie down on top of some of them to
observe and snuggle, to commune and shine my praise.
I must be more careful standing and stepping more so than
lying down. Lying down I can softly bend their stems,
and when rising they seem to re-pop in structure,
like almost-gone goose bumps reactivated by the sudden
surprise of her newfound delicate/just hard-enough touch.
I lie next to her then reinvigorated;
I lie next to them now reinvigorated.
Polyamorous I am, floating between her and the poppies.
