blindly chasing the elusive

by Charlie Morgan

city blocks of cold wind
shuffle me like cards;
petrify my future's day.

yesterday is safe;
historians will look
back and change it.

stopped clock, denotes the time.
time: a wayward subject.
bums know this, governments--no.

by now i already lived the day.
the NYT crossword winks at me;
9:00, time to close another day.

"historians will look back and change it." What a sad but true observation. Yet we're always in the NOW. Even while rewriting a past we only know through trustworthy or not trustworthy reflections..... Thought provoking, Chaz.
