Venus

by Gira Bryant

the stars with which
I wove your name
shuddered

as you made your move
to leave behind
forever my womb
your home

assembled Goddesses held
their collective breath
as you their namesake
and newest child

pierced the veil between
the worlds and the water
rushed forth between
my oh-so-human legs

I do not know
oh thrice-blest child
why you called me mother

but I am always
humbled and honored
that you did

it was all unwilling
that I bore you forth
into a cold cruel world

where before your heartbeat
had been all mine
deep within the soul of me

my most cherished angel

destiny waits for no one
not even you
but I hope at least, perhaps
I have cushioned the landing

Nothing like a good love poem. And I'd definitely say this is one of the good ones.
