dreaming is one way

by Charlie Morgan

a near-finished bridge fills his dreams;
says he doesn't remember his other dreams.
claims to not dream at all, ever.

he needs to dream the bridge once more;
this time finish it so suspended families
can move on with their lives.

it'll be hours before sleep; so, they wait.
suspended in car-seats and set in life;
only his dreaming will loose them.

the power of one man's dream; endless.
until he wakens to see that bridges
are built in the wide-awake day.

An evocative and strong bridge this poem builds. Unusual and suggestive. The "near finished bridge" a dream image with import in line one line 2 and 3--self efacing commentary on it. Stanza teo-- such a dream--that feels real--as some so strongly do--the reasoning! Stanza 3 like a suspension bridge itself--the waiting!! Stanza 4--the power felt in dream... and then the waking realization! Yes, in my favorites.

Kath says it all really. This reads simply but the ideas run deep. Very powerful images here which show us much about this unnamed person.
