Frankie

by Christina Bruno

on crutches
two coffee bean eyes
and caramel skin
tattered black hair
and a sarcastic smile
no more witty banter now
or nine o’clock take out
over-sized yankee shirts and pajamas
limping but always standing
knowledgeable
the next Socrates
every word
should have be put on a shelf
to be bought
immortalize him
we used to watch
gangster movies
read papers
and egg on the old man
the fish beside your bed
in the muggy water
we’d change it three times aday
he’s gone to
i miss you
in every instant
