Disposed of after death by Shirin SwiftI will buy a green dress
wear it all summer
'til it slips off my bones
sleeps on my bones
like a foetus
a second shadow
I'll wear it on the sun-drenched path
a lady might paint
when she feels all alone
in her soft songs and knows
that she is,
I will buy a green dress. 01/26/2008 Author's Note: I like what the tarot deck says about the card represented by death - change, regeneration, etc.

Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 01/26/08 at 07:30 PM I love this poem, it is a "green dress" -- the slipping and sleeping is indeed both "foetus" like, and not shadow-like, but definitely "second shadow"-like... and this is indeed a surprise. The "second shadow" appearing as a "foetus" is a remarklable concept, and startling. The sense of "the sun-drenched path a lady might paint" gives such contrast to that, an openness full of possibility. in tune with the resolution at the end to "buy a green dress". The regenerative nature of life and all experience is alive here! |

What a wonderful melange of ethereal imagery and the very solid reality of season. So many lovely levels of meaning, and textures of emotion crafted into this work...
Well done! |
