Oceans

by Richard Vince

My eyes are everywhere, but
Hers are nowhere; whether
Open or closed, she does not
See me as I see her.

I am sleepwalking while awake:
My body walks in its sleep
While my mind tries to
Exhaust itself by thinking,
But remains an insomniac.

My eyes dart around,
Looking for a way out of
My sleeping prison cell.
They alight enviously on
Her waking body and
Her still eyes, giving away
Nothing.

Behind every window, there
May be a dream. Is one there,
Beyond hers? Is there
Another world in there,
Constructed from places
And people I will never see?

Her eyes are endless oceans,
Full of mystery hiding
Below the surface;
Cold but beautiful,
Empty yet full of life:
A perfect contradiction.

I seek truth, yet I only
Find conjecture; my eyes
Search frantically for
Clues, but she gives away
Nothing. Her eyes are
Nowhere.

Empty, yet inspiring life...thoughts, feelings, actions - all evading conscious control. Yes, a perfect contradiction, and an intense delivery :>
