Another Misunderstood Kiss

by Nancy Ames

"She kept apologizing for the petals
that were scattered all over her
kitchen floor, at her party."

"Yeah, that was a good party, wasn't
it? But I did hear later on that some
guy brought her flowers instead of wine
and when the girl got all snotty
about it he tried to beat her up
with the rejected bouquet. He was
simply snarling, they said. So then
he got totally wasted and passed out
on the couch."

"Okay. Yeah. I saw that guy.
That was the guy I saw for sure.
There were petals all over him too."

Author's Note: Just trying out a piece of short dialogue as a vehicle for a poetic concept, to give the idea ( using scattered petals as a symbol for shattered love) an immediacy for the reader.

You're doing a pretty damn good job. Very nicely done.
