If I could give a gift

by Jay Davenport

If I could give a gift to you,
Inside my mind, I see,
your passion and your smile, your grace,
The girl who once loved me.

If I could give a gift to you
Through all the hurt and strife
I'd give you back the fire you had,
the need for love, for life.

If I could give a gift to you,
A single, shining light,
I'd give my heart, the very same
I pour out as I write.

If I could give a gift to you
in all that I can find,
I'd share each day, each night with you,
Each thought inside my mind.

If I could give a gift to you
Pulled from the thunder's roll,
I'd give you pieces of myself
so you could feel whole.

If I could give a gift to you
Turn back the hands of time,
I'd show you how you felt then, to
Awaken and remind.

If I could give a gift to you,
I'd show you how to live,
Free to explore, to love, to feel,
Free to your whole self give.

If I could give a gift to you
I wouldn't let you fade,
you'd be the brilliant butterfly
that He saw fit and made.

If I could give these gifts to you,
I did, I would, I will,
If I could give these gifts, again,
Again, I'd do it Jill.
