Winter Empress and the Friend of Fiends

by T.J. Carver

Far too long in this winter waste
have I searched for thee.
This blackened snow burns skin and soul
and clouds all that I see.
Yon blinded Empress doth breathe new life:
the earth, her souls, and me.

While Friend and fiends lay world to waste,
the Empress will the mother wake.

The masks will break, our souls reveal;
the fallen God won't help to heal.

In this hour of Final Prayer and sin,
the sun will bring us light again.

Author's Note: Inspired by the book Swan Song by Robert R McGammon (mainly the second half and concluding chapters)

I don't know Swan Song, but this poem is great. I love the language.
