Monogamy by Frank LeeI saw her from across the room;
I couldnt help but wink.
She smiled back as she stirred her straw;
Seductively polishing off her drink.
She was (purposively) at one time in love with me
But I was passionately against monogamy.
Tonight, she had a date attached to her hip.
He was a tall straight laced doofus, if youd ask me, a piece of shit.
It had been at least a year since I'd seen her;
I couldn't stop staring.
She did her best to ignore me;
Acted the part of not caring.
She looked stunning in a red dress that accentuated her curves,
Her hair shined, eyes dazzled, talked to everyone (if they had the nerve).
Its funny how life can turn lopsided on you so fast,
How the tables have a way of turning on those who act with no class.
Id never felt like such an ass
Or even as jealous as I did that night.
I drank every bit of liquor in the place
And demanded a fight.
No one paid much attention to me though,
Especially not the source of my indignation.
I sat alone on the concrete steps (with a bottle) deep in contemplation.
Had I missed my chance, had I dodged cupids arrow?
Or is it my fate to travel the globe scavenging
Women like seeds to a sparrow?
What I know now though is you never know what you have
Until you no longer have it.
And if you still give a shit, well, you should
Never have lost it.

Posted by Coleman Demiurge on 01/21/08 at 04:46 AM Words of wisdom if I've ever heard any... Irony can be life's most brutal weapon of choice. Anyway, excellent piece. |
Posted by Tota Longmire on 11/10/10 at 12:20 AM I've been that girl and that guy in various relationships. I love the perspective and verbage found here. Thank you. |
