the weight

by Melinda Sordino

i wrap my sadness around me
like the blanket i use
around seven am to block out
the cheerful morning sun.
it comforts me in my misery
and surrounds me in its warmth.

this feeling is all i know,
all i have ever known.
i feel like this is where i belong
drowning underneath this sadness
this oppressive weight that
crushes me until i can't breathe

I've had a lot of mornings not unlike that first stanza. Well captured.
