catch and release

by Mary Frances Spencer

i reel in
this day
familiar fish
bucket full

boat anchored
gear
put away

in the stillness
i release
silver arrows
gracefully back
into the lake
emotions
too slippery
to hold
will slide away
under midnight water

and tomorrow
i will bait
the dawn
with positive intentions
string a new hook
and wait

for the
big kahuna

Very well done! And yes I've tossed a line many a time. The big one always got away. But that was OK. It was the trying that I remember most! I loved it!
