There is a truth in the air tonight... by Jared OrlandoThere are so many songs
That I wish I had written.
So many compositions that I wish IÂ’d
Locked my own self away
To vocalize her graces
Through tattered fingers
Surrounded in no less than
A misty, drunken daze.
To give birth to a lyric, watered by
A recent feeling that just couldnÂ’t be kept
In the ground any longer.
So many dreamers have
Said what I had to say,
Strummed what I wanted to play,
Inspired what has inspired me.
But there are still fortes out there
That the greats cannot touch.
That Mozart failed to reach
In the Requiem Mass.
No classically trained man has taught me
How to recreate the slow of a heartbeat,
The shortness of breath,
The onslaught of quick frames
Of every curve of that girl
In between the key signature
And dal segno.
I may continue searching
But for now,
IÂ’ll humbly admit I am no match
For this marriage of feeling and word.
