Feigned

by Joe Cramer

When you speak to me it sounds so shallow,

So very trite, so unimaginable.

You want all the love that you can get from me

While you give me nothing in return.

I want to dance, I want romance.

What I don't want is this feigned love

That you pretend to offer.

You have such stylized notions of love, of romance,

Of supposed affections,

That are all one-sided.

It is not the love that I want, need or desire.

When you speak, I end up feeling as shallow as you sound.
