Nemesis

by Harold Millican

Nemesis

The shadows come and engulf me now
On the flying roller coaster of never
Winding over curving out never slowing
Having no doubt
My nemesis
The devil I can’t destroy
I can’t bring it down
I am its toy
It plays and duels with me day after day
And I can’t yet find a way to defeat it
Life always has a nemesis
One that meets your every match
Victory is like a medal
And you are the key without the latch
Your test is a maze of opposing choices
Followed by a disruption of disturbing voices
As you attempt to piece the puzzle
And its compromising pieces
The nemesis appears to retreat
But then releases the one thing
That you fear more than enough
Your weakness
He appears to have you now
Because you’re powerless to fight
Your life hanging by a thread
You think you’ll die by night

But as frightened as you are
There’s a stirring within you
So deep that no physical stronghold
Is able to keep
In you there lives a great passion
To keep on and finish the bout
And as you exert yourself
And do all that you can
There’s something
That nemesis never saw in his plan
As long as there’s hope
The nemesis has short rebel
Anything worth it takes time
But the soldier shall prevail
