time unborn

by Matthew Sharp

embryonic shell
a film on the gene pool
the membrane
floating its captor to shallowness
the rube
lured into chance
to enhance the propagation
of a nimble seed
humbled by the greed
of the selfish gene
the phenotype
lost at face value
the carrier
dormantly hollow
shunning timeless immortality
for immediate gratification
