Sleeping in Place

by Joe Cramer

A woman was sleeping on the front lawn,

Sweetly, serenely, indeed, she was passed out

From her imbibed exertions of the evening.

I stepped over her, there was no way around

As I headed back into the house for one more beer.

"Pledge!" he slurred, "Pledge with us."

"It will only cost $210.00 a semester."

I was only paying $90.00 a semester

For my dorm room in Tiger Stadium.

There wasn't enough "free" beer

Or scantily clad drunken women

For me to make such a change.

I forever remained a "G.D.I.",

You do the math, I majored in English.
