She's Leaving Home by Tony WhitakerMy wife worries
About the cats
What to feed them
In her small
Swiss chalet
She worries
About her father
So frail and wan
She'll worry about me
Trying to sell the house
Or meeting some blond
She worries
About this wonderful job
Awaiting her there
Worries about the day
We walk away
Consumed in despair
IÂ’ll worry
About her leaving
As she boards the plane
Knowing for several months
As I feel the pain
No touching her again
IÂ’ll worry
About some accident
On some Swiss expressway
I'll worry
about her getting sick
Being so far away
IÂ’ll miss sitting
In a den at night
Talking about nothing
But everything
That keeps
A love alive
IÂ’ll miss
Her little smile
Her winsome willing style
I'll miss the way
She loves her clothes
Asking my approval
Every morning
Knowing I tell
What I like
What I don't
So sometimes
I get the "look"
And a so silent
Little groan
Be careful
But enjoy
Burning life
Over there
But you are
accident prone
And independent
So if something happens
Let me know
Fulfill my need
Try to be careful
Watch the roads each way
Soon weÂ’ll be together
In Europe to work and play
Now remember I love you
I already ache
for that morning hug
For fifteen frantic years
Our special moment
Every day!
01/05/2008 Author's Note: Maggie leaves for Swtizerland on January 19th for her new job. I am staying behind until the house sells. I hope it sells fast. We are putting it on the market next week. Anyone want to buy a house so I can be with my wonderful wife?

Posted by Kathleen Wilson on 01/05/08 at 06:14 PM It's an achievement to write about something with so much feeling, history and depth--and do it with charm and poetic style, conversational, with perspective, with an artist's stance, as if brush lifted from the canvas, head tilted, yes... perfect. |
Posted by Joan Serratelli on 05/28/09 at 07:55 PM An absolutely beautiful piece. I can feel the love you feel for her and the pain of her leaving you. She's very lucky to have you and you're lucky for loving her so much. Very heartfelt write! |
