Author's Note: Published in "above the tree line" Southern California Haiku Study Group Anthology, 2008. #11 of 60 new year greetings in response to other haiku poets. Each contains the greeting happy new year in Japanese (as this is a japanese haiku tradition for each year) and a sign of the rat (representing 2008) --mine is my own little watercolor rat...(listening to that mockingbird?)
