Ravens Heaven

by Steven Craig

The shore will perhaps know a bit more weathering
A longer night than those that thrive in the mountains.

The sands will be lined with the flotsam of the days tide
Waving down the tan grains to the distant end
Traversed by the tern and the sparrow.

The gulls will laugh
They know the upland ravens are seeking shelter
The ice pelts them in the haunts that they make
high in the cliffs.

The mountain pines will sing with the wind
It blows though the forests
Yet the rivers are still running clear
The air is clean.
The sky is a darker blue
When you are high in on the rocks
Marked only by the lashes of the passing lightning
And the scolding of the thunder.

The arching limbs drip the caress to the soils
The life that is nurtured will rebound
Found with the coming of the spring.

The bay will already have begun its warming
There are trailing vapors rising in the early morning sun
As the rays melt the frost.

The waves will catch the glint of the sunrise
The minnows will swarm close to the warm shore.

On the distant line that marks the horizon
The clouds will build once more
To rush to the landward in a whirlwind
Past your door it will sail to the mountains once more.

The ravens will rejoice with the droplets
Those that will speckle their feathers
Making them the clean ones
As the wind lifts their wings.

From that vantage
They will see the bay far to the East
A blue line
On a bluer line
That is their heaven.

If I could somehow be within the heart of each part of nature you mentioned and fly with the raven to float on thermals - I think this would fulfill a heart's desire. I am enchanted by your words and they touched me to the deepest part of my spirit. Ravens are incredible bird - beautiful and intelligent. Nature is in my soul - my mantra. I love this poem!
