Haiku: the tiny mouse

by A. Paige White

The tiny mouse
shadow didn't reach the door
front legs crippled, pink

12/26/2007

Author's Note: I walked outside the front door and there it sat. Fat little mouse. Only six inches from the door. It didn't even seem to notice me and sat there for some time for me to study. I tried to burn the image into my mind's eye since I am so intrigued with Kathy's year of the rat haiku exchange. Wow. I asked the Lord what the message was and He whispered just to pay attention to what I noticed. This haiku is just that. Not even a rat but a mouse and crippled it sat. And sat.
It truly excited my compassion for something I normally abhore. Fascinating study at this particular moment in my day.

I love the "almost" of this, the colors, shadow to "pink", the real life inspiration surprise of it, the mouse to rat differentiation, and of course--your companionship in my new year haiku project, wonderful!

Quite vivid! The focus on a moment. The mind can do the rest!

Your discipline in the moment gave pause to ponder and become inspired to share such a sentient observation! Happy New Year of the Rat or Mouse?
